Scenic Railroad Journey Through Royal Gorge

This is an awesome way to view the Royal Gorge. You make get lucky and be able to hear the servers talking about the history of certain parts of the gorge. The views are incredible. The train departs the station and heads down about an hour down the tracks and then it makes a return trip on the same track. Hopefully you get seated on the side that has the Arkansas River. If you sit on the opposite side, you won't get the full view from the opposite window. The service was good and the food was okay. The food is expensive for what you're getting. You're allowed to take bottled water on the train, take one for hydration. Be advised the rail car was cold so take a light blanket or dress appropriately. Unfortunately, we caught quite a bit of showers on our ride so we didn't get to fully utlize the open car. It was also cloudy and a bit chilly outside.

After having some issues the first time we went, the company made it up to us and we enjoyed our upgraded seats. The views were stunning and our attendant in the train car was so knowledgeable and friendly. We didn’t order any food or drinks since we read so many negative reviews about both. But the other passengers all ordered and the food and drinks came out quickly and we didn’t hear any complaints from them. We really enjoyed the ride.

Great train ride up and just enough time on the train for our crew. We sat in the open air section/ rafting car. Box turkey lunches were nice to have. Wish there was another meat option, especially for kids. We stopped at the bakery in town and got a breakfast sandwich for our oldest. I’m thankful that we were sitting in the open air section as we discovered there’s no air-conditioning in the closed cars. We had a wonderful time rafting! The water is a chilly 45°… so be prepared when a paddle breaks out or you end up in the water. My kids especially enjoyed the young lady who was in charge of our whole rafting experience and her descriptions of crack on crack when writing down a tube. Excellent family experience. Pro tip! Have a waterproof case for your phone if you plan on taking it down the river. Otherwise, all your things are left on the bus and you will collect them after. Our guide was kind enough to hang onto one of our phones to take some family photos of us on the river.

My family had such a great time during the sunset ride! The views were incredible, it was fun to travel through the carts and go out to the open air cart. All of the staff was friendly. Stephanie took care of us during our trip, she was so personable, attentive and prompt! Definitely worth going if you are traveling in the area.

Giving 4/5 just because food was not that great and we were a group of 5 and were split into two tables as we paid extra for the dome seating. I think we would have been better off with just the coach seating, since we were outside for the most part. It took a while to take off, so if you do want to eat , I would recommend to order as soon as they let you. We did it this way and were finished by the time the train took off. We also did the 7pm which had a light show but it was not all that and we couldn’t see much since it was dark so would recommend maybe the earlier reservations.
