Guided New River Gorge Bridge Catwalk Tour

Amazing experience! My 83 year old father and I did the bridge walk this past week. Bob, our tour guide, was amazing. We had a small tour group, and were given great information about the area and bridge. My father is a little unsteady sometimes, but able to walk up to 2 miles and he did great. The meeting point is close to the Canyon Rim Visitor's Center. They have phone holder's for $6 in the gift shop and you can also take cameras, but NO backpacks or drinks. You take a short shuttle to the Canyon Rim Visitor's Center and then walk down a pretty steep hill to the entrance under the bridge. Our tour took about two hours and you stop frequently so that your guide can provide information. Bob also took a picture of the group at the middle of the bridge and took a video which he shared with everyone. He also offered to take pictures for people multiple times. At the end of the walk there was another shuttle waiting to take us back across the bridge and they provided us with a bottle of water, which was very nice.

This was a fantastic experience. Our guide Scott was friendly, knowledgeable and funny. After a harness demonstration we went to the van to take us down a short path to the bridge. As soon as we got out of the van, the sky opened up and the rain came! Once we were under the bridge we were out of the rain. The gorge and mountains looked eerie with the clouds low and rain coming down the drains. Within 10 minutes the sun was out and a beautiful breeze. It was cool to see the clouds lift. The walkway was dry and sturdy. The views were breathtaking. Scott took photos of us and we even had a chance to sit on the bridge and dangle our legs. But only if we wanted to. There were two young girls on our tour and Scott made sure they and everyone was comfortable and safe. I “highly” recommend this tour. Scott is a great guy and fabulous guide.

Very cool tour, definitely best to see the New River Gorge bridge from the underside. Met our guide, quick safety brief where we got in our harnesses, and then an equally quick van ride over to the visitor center. Once everyone was hooked up, we made our way across the catwalk! Multiple stops, got some history facts along with info about what happens on Bridge Day. Suitable for all ages as long as you don't mind a bit of walking (which includes a brief decline to get to the bridge) and aren't afraid of heights. Felt very safe the whole way with the railings and being hooked to the cable. At the end of the walk, the van picked us up and took us back to the tour office. Cute gift shop with lots of offerings and some more history. Restrooms available if needed. Parking is okay, luckily the visitor center is within walking distance and has more spots (and I also recommend the visitor center).

This is so cool! New river is one of the only places in the world you can do something like this. The view is absolutely gorgeous. Our guide was named Jay and he was awesome too. He was very friendly, and knowledgeable. He took the time to answer every question and make sure everyone was safe too.

I did the bridge walk this past Sunday 7/13/25 with one of my children and think it was an excellent 2 hour adventure and thrilling way to see the New River Gorge from a different vantage point. The views are unbelievable, the walk is easy, safe and I always felt secure. The bridge does shake or vibrate a bit with truck traffic but it was not upsetting. Mary, our guide was fantastic from the start, describing photo ops for family members who did not take the walk to giving us all of the information that we needed to get the best experience possible. We had a thunderstorm pop up about halfway through that added some extra thrills for us and gave us the opportunity for some different pictures with the changing weather. At least 100 % recommend doing the walk.
